A car for urban driving
Janet (above) and Steve tried out the Astraux AL6 neighborhood electric vehicle.
Janet Byron and Steve Price went to VIP Golf Cart in Walnut Creek to test drive the Astraux AL6 neighborhood electric vehicle, which can be preordered for $9,990. Janet and Steve drove it around Walnut Creek for about 45 minutes. It slowed up on steep grades but otherwise was a fun drive. Although by law not allowed to go over 25 mph, in El Cerrito and Richmond Annex that only excludes San Pablo Avenue, which is 30 mph.
The Astraux AL6 is allowed on streets up to 35 mph which might slow up other cars, but could be driven short distances without much objection. It is only 7.6’ long (the lengthby 4.25’ wide. In a 8’ x 20’ parallel parking space, they could be parked head in to the curb allowing three to be parked in the space of a single car with no extra room needed for parallel parking maneuvers.
