Here’s why you should add ECRA Walk & Roll to your annual donation list
ECRA Walk & Roll-ers say YES! to safer streets, and your donations help make our work happen!
“El Cerrito/Richmond Annex Walk and Roll is a small team of volunteer advocates making a big impact,” Bike East Bay wrote in its award announcement for their “Best Community Advocacy” award at their Biketopia fundraiser in September.
With your donation of any amount, you’re supporting our vision and mission for El Cerrito and Richmond Annex: “To promote walking, bicycling, transit, and other low-carbon multimodal transportation alternatives, building community for safer, more joyful, and inclusive streets for all.”
Here’s a few of our achievements in 2025, and how your donations helped us work toward these goals:
Co-sponsored the GO GREEN! Mobility Fair, a showcase of sustainable, affordable, and fun multimodal travel options. ECRA Walk & Roll had the idea for the fair, pulled together the sponsors (City of El Cerrito, City of Berkeley, BART, and Bike East Bay), and were key members of the organizing committee. More than 20 community organizations tabled at the fair, which was held at El Cerrito Plaza BART on the site of the upcoming 750-unit El Cerrito Plaza Transit-Oriented Development, and several hundred community members participated. Donations helped to purchase promotional materials for the fair including fliers, banners, and posters.
Led successful advocacy effort to include bike lanes in El Cerrito’s Richmond Street Complete Streets Improvement Project. When project opponents emerged to oppose the project design, ECRA Walk & Roll organized and rallied supporters, who came out in force to support the project by speaking during public comment at city council meetings and sending emails to council members. Donations were used to purchase full-color fliers distributed door-to-door on Richmond Street, display posters, stickers, and other outreach materials.
Joined the El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce, to advocate for better bike access to local businesses. As new members, we were elected co–runner Up (with the Practice Space) in the chamber’s 2025 Best of El Cerrito Awards in the Best Non-Profit Groups (Wide Reaching) category.
Conducted community outreach activities at El Cerrito’s MLK Jr. Day Parade, Bike to Wherever Day, El Cerrito’s July 4/World One Festival, and the Solano Stroll. Your donations helped us to pay for booth space, posters, and outreach materials.
Other activities in 2025 included:
Promoting safer routes to school, including working with UC Berkeley SafeTREC to evaluate conditions at public schools in north El Cerrito.
Advocating for the West Contra Costa Transportation Commission to initiate a one-time fund for small infrastructure expenditures such as bike parking, bus stops, and quick-build projects.
Pressing for better bike parking at El Cerrito Plaza and on public rights of way in commercial areas in El Cerrito and Richmond Annex (coming soon!).
Hosting bimonthly meetings and family-friendly happy hours.
“[ECRA Walk & Roll has] worked within their cities to improve projects underway and advocate for undertaking new projects,” Bike East Bay wrote in their award announcement. “Despite only existing for two and a half years, the group has made a significant impact on local street safety and community organizing, bringing new bike lanes, pedestrian improvements, and better bike parking to their cities.”
