ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL FOR ARTISTS – EL CERRITO PAVEMENT ART PROGRAM: Sponsored by the the El Cerrito Arts & Culture Commission, the El Cerrito Pavement Art Pilot Program is a beautification and safety program designed to add to the vibrancy of the city and improve road safety for all modes. Community artists are invited to transform a mundane piece of asphalt on a public street into an attractive and captivating work of art. The pilot program is focused on the roadway edges and median at the San Pablo Avenue and Wall Avenue intersection. To create a longer-lasting investment, the project will use methyl methacrylate, a traffic-grade material, instead of paint. Applications are due online by 4 p.m. on Friday, November 1. Contact Lina Huang lhuang@ci.el-cerrito.ca.us or at (510) 215-4371 for more information or if online submission is not possible.

EL CERRITO DEL NORTE BIKEWAY – STAGE 2 CONSTRUCTION: Construction on the El Cerrito Del Norte protected bikeway, which broke ground this spring, is progressing steadily. Stage 2 of the project began in August, including the installation of protected bike lanes on San Pablo Avenue northbound from Potrero to Knott avenues. Construction will continue through the fall, when the stage 3 southbound bikeway installation is scheduled to begin (depending on weather). Protected intersections and connecting, protected bike lanes will also be installed on Cutting and Eastshore boulevards. Find more information or submit any questions or concerns about the construction on the city's project page.

CA PASSES E-BIKE DEFINITIONS AND BATTERY SAFETY LAW: Governor Newsom has signed SB 127, a bill setting safety standards for e-mobility devices like electric bicycles and their batteries and clarifying definitions for better regulation. The bill also amends the three-class definitions of electric bicycles. After Jan. 1, 2025, throttles or other means of propelling an electric bicycle without added human input will no longer be allowed on Class 1 or Class 3 electric bicycles sold or operated in California. Learn more about bike policy wins and losses in the CalBikes legislative roundup.
